About Michal Indrak

Welcome to my creative space!

I’m Michal Indrak, a Czech filmmaker currently based in the UK. My filmmaking journey is anchored in my studies at Birkbeck, University of London, where I am pursuing a BA in Film and Media Practice. This programme introduces me to a diverse range of cinematic disciplines, including filmmaking, television production, screenwriting, and digital media design. Through a combination of practical exercises and critical analysis, I am developing my skills in image and sound editing, script development, and digital media strategies, preparing me for a broad spectrum of roles within the creative industries.

To further enhance my craft, I have undertaken advanced training at Raindance in London. I completed specialised courses in directing, which have deepened my understanding of the collaborative relationship between a film director and a Director of Photography (DP), as well as the nuances of directing actors and action sequences. These sessions have been instrumental in honing my skills in visual storytelling, performance direction, and action choreography.

Filmmaking Philosophy:

My work is characterised by a commitment to experimentation and a deep appreciation for film history. Influenced by movements like the French avant-garde, I aim to create films that are visually striking and thought-provoking.

Central to my approach is the belief that filmmaking is a means of bringing the imagination to life. I strive to translate abstract ideas and visions into tangible, immersive experiences for the audience. By blending innovative cinematic techniques with traditional storytelling, I seek to craft narratives that not only captivate the eye but also resonate on an emotional level.

Every project is an opportunity to explore new creative boundaries and experiment with visual and auditory elements. My goal is to create films that not only tell a story but also evoke a deep and lasting impact, inviting viewers to experience the world through a fresh and imaginative lens.

Notable Projects:

One of my key works, Whispers: Waves of the Diary, is an experimental short film that captures the essence of Whitstable through a visually captivating and auditory journey. The film explores the town’s maritime heritage and serene landscapes, enhanced by the evocative music of AudioCoffee.

I’m thrilled to share that Whispers: Waves of the Diary has been selected for the semi-finals of the Paris International Short Festival, a prestigious IMDB-qualified festival known for showcasing exceptional short films. This recognition highlights the film’s unique approach and its ability to resonate with a wider audience.

In addition to this accolade, my portfolio includes a range of other projects that reflect my commitment to blending innovative techniques with traditional storytelling.
