News: Michal Indrak Wins Best First-Director at the Ottawa Film Award

I am delighted to share some exciting news—I’ve been honoured with the Best First-Director award at the Ottawa Film Award!

The Ottawa Film Award is a prestigious international competition that invites filmmakers from around the world to showcase their work across a wide range of genres. This seasonal online event celebrates the art of cinema and recognises filmmakers from all walks of life. Each season, a panel of four judges conducts private screenings to evaluate the top-rated films and determine the winners in various categories.

Winning in the Best First-Director category is a humbling experience, and I am deeply grateful for this recognition. It is an incredible honour to be acknowledged among such talented filmmakers.

This award is especially meaningful to me as it highlights the journey I’ve embarked upon since starting my studies at Birkbeck, University of London, and earning my Director’s certification at Raindance in London. It reinforces my passion for experimental filmmaking and my commitment to pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Ottawa Film Award judges and organisers for this honour, as well as to everyone who has supported me on this creative journey.

You can watch my award-winning film Whispers: Waves of the Diary on YouTube.

Thank you for sharing this momentous occasion with me!

Warm regards,
Michal Indrak
