Cinema Today

In this module, I delve into the multifaceted world of contemporary cinema, examining it as both a cultural phenomenon and an artistic expression deeply intertwined with evolving technology. Central to exploration are two fundamental inquiries:

  1. What pivotal transformations has cinema undergone in recent times?
  2. How have these shifts impacted our role as viewers and students of film?

Structured around six key themes—movie-going, digital culture, world cinema, film festivals, film criticism, and film history—this module serves as a platform to dissect these questions.

Throughout the course, I’ll refine my skills in film analysis and encounter essential theoretical texts in film studies. Moreover, I’ll provide firsthand insights into contemporary cinema culture by facilitating interactions with industry professionals and organising visits to esteemed institutions like the BFI library and film archives.

By immersing myself in the dynamic landscape of contemporary cinema, this module aims to enrich my understanding of its societal significance and artistic evolution while fostering critical engagement with its myriad facets.
