The Inspiration

At the heart of Ashes of Courage lies a deeply personal narrative inspired by the true story of my great-grandparents during the Second World War. In 1944, amidst the chaos of the Slovak National Uprising, my great-grandfather was imprisoned for his defiance. Meanwhile, my great-grandmother faced an unimaginable reality: alone with nine children, she was warned by a sympathetic German soldier of a plan to destroy their home with her family inside. With extraordinary courage, she escaped, securing not just her family’s survival but a legacy of resilience that echoes through generations.

This is a story of ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances—of sacrifice, strength, and the quiet heroism that history often overlooks.

The Vision

Ashes of Courage is not just about revisiting the past. It’s a cinematic exploration of humanity, family, and survival under unimaginable odds. Through a compelling blend of historical drama and emotional depth, the film will delve into the personal struggles of its protagonists while painting a vivid picture of the larger socio-political turmoil of the time.

Visually, the film will use muted tones to evoke the harshness of war, interspersed with moments of warmth and light to reflect hope. Symbolism will play a pivotal role, with fire representing both destruction and rebirth, mirroring the title’s theme of resilience rising from the ashes.

Where We Are Now

Currently in the early stages of development, Ashes of Courage is being shaped with meticulous attention to detail. From historical research to visual planning, every step is being undertaken to ensure the authenticity and emotional power of the story.
